The Top 20 Things Oprah Knows for Sure

Since the day the late Gene Siskel asked me, "What do you know for sure?" and I got all flustered and started stuttering and couldn't come up with an answer, I've never stopped asking myself that question. And every month I must find yet another answer. Some months I feel I hardly know a thing, and I'm always pressed to make the deadline for this column. This time around, I looked back and came up with my all-time top 20:
1. What you put out comes back all the time, no matter what. (This is my creed.)
2. You define your own life. Don't let other people write your script.
3. Whatever someone did to you in the past has no power over the present. Only you give it power.
4. When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. (A lesson from Maya Angelou.)
5. Worrying is wasted time. Use the same energy for doing something about whatever worries you.
6. What you believe has more power than what you dream or wish or hope for. You become what you believe.
7. If the only prayer you ever say is thank you, that will be enough. (From the German theologian and humanist Meister Eckhart.)
8. The happiness you feel is in direct proportion to the love you give.
9. Failure is a signpost to turn you in another direction.
10. If you make a choice that goes against what everyone else thinks, the world will not fall apart.
11. Trust your instincts. Intuition doesn't lie.
12. Love yourself and then learn to extend that love to others in every encounter.
13. Let passion drive your profession.
14. Find a way to get paid for doing what you love. Then every paycheck will be a bonus.
15. Love doesn't hurt. It feels really good.
16. Every day brings a chance to start over.
17. Being a mother is the hardest job on earth. Women everywhere must declare it so.
18. Doubt means don't. Don't move. Don't answer. Don't rush forward.
19. When you don't know what to do, get still. The answer will come.
20. "Trouble don't last always." (A line from a Negro spiritual, which calls to mind another favorite: This, too, shall pass.)

3 Ways To Choose Happiness By Dr. Danielle Dowling

I believe that happiness is a choice. We choose our food, our clothing, our partners, our jobs. We can also choose how we want to feel. (Really!)

Here are three more ways to bring happiness into your life.

1. Stop numbing yourself and feel your feelings.

Attempting to escape from our fears and doubts has become a regular part of the human condition. And we have so many things to hide behind: over-spending, over-eating, over-working, over-analyzing. We’ll over-do just about anything to keep from experiencing anything negative!
To truly be happy we need to get in touch with our feelings—good AND bad.  A few easy ways do that:
  • Journaling
  • Talk it out with a friend
  • Listen to music
  • Run, walk, move your body
  • Get into nature
  • Meditate
  • Ask yourself: When do you feel most like you? What are you doing? Then go do that!
Drop the focus from your head to your heart and then start acting on your true feelings. You'll tap into an unlimited source of happiness.
2. Let go of what no longer serves you.

There is absolutely nothing to be gained by holding onto past failures and old grudges. They poison your heart and waste your time. Forgive the people who hurt you, the friends who disappointed you, the family members who weren’t quite what you needed them to be. Donate the clothes you don’t love, delete the phone numbers of people you don’t talk to, clean out your Facebook feed. If it brings you down, say good-bye.

3. Love yourself and get comfortable in your own skin.

Connect to what's most important to you. If you love socializing with your friends over great food, make time for a monthly dinner party. If you’ve been wanting to learn a language, sign up for a class. Choose friends who love you for who you are, not who they wish you’d be. Reconnect with the things you love—it doesn’t matter if they’re silly or out-of-fashion. If you love Star Wars or paint-by-numbers kits, own it!
Life is full of wonderful things. You should be out there soaking them up and revelling in your happy.

Get to it!

Gratitude Is The Best Attitude!

“Gratitude is an amazing antidote to almost any negative feeling. The minute we are angry with someone is the minute we have momentarily forgotten how grateful we are for having them in our lives in the first place. And as soon as we return to gratitude, the anger disappears.”

Smile in Each Moment By Leo Babauta

There’s a tendency to get caught up in the tasks of our day, the urgency of what’s coming up, the distractions of being online.

And we forget to smile.

In the rush of the day, the stress of wanting things to happen a certain way, we lose the enjoyment of each moment.

In every moment, there’s the capacity for happiness. It’s not that we need to be ecstatic, full of pleasure, excited or even joyous each and every second of the day. Who needs that kind of pressure? And it’s not that we can never feel sadness or anger or stress. It’s that we can feel happiness, in some form, any moment we like, even in the midst of stress or sadness.

And it’s exceedingly simple.

We just need to remember to smile.  You can smile in each and every moment.

OK, maybe you don’t need a smile on your face all day long — your cheeks will feel tired. But we can smile more, and in between physical smiles, we can have an internal smile.

Try an internal smile now: have a calm, unsmiling face, but think of the miracle of this moment, and find a thought to smile about. Feel the smiling feeling inside. Isn’t that amazing?

What do you have to smile about in this moment?

Some ideas:
You have someone in your life who cares about you.
There is beauty all around you, in many forms.
You are generous, compassionate, and good-hearted.
You have someone you can help.
You have eaten today.
You can move.
You can see the sun shining.
You can appreciate the leaves of a tree, rain falling, wind blowing.
You can taste chocolate.
You get to spend time with someone you love.
You have music in your life.
You get to create something.

And so on. You probably don’t have all of these, but you might have one or two, and if so, that’s a more than good enough cause to smile.

You’ll forget to smile in some moments, because your mind gets caught up in stories about the past, stresses about what might happen in the future. None of this is happening right now — it’s just movies playing in our heads.

Instead, remind yourself of what’s happening right now, and see the beauty in it, see the reason to smile. And then smile, externally and internally.

This changes your day, because now instead of being caught up in stress and stories, we are present, and happy. We can be content with every moment.

It changes your life, because too often we miss the smile-ability of life when we are not paying attention

Trazi i dobices :)

"Sa Životom sam se cjenkao za novčić,
I Život mi ne pruži više,
Jer, molio sam uvečer
Brojeći svoju oskudnu imovinu.
Jer Život je tek gospodar,
On daje ono što tražiš,
No, kad odrediš nadnicu,
Zadatak moraš izvršiti.
Radio sam za bijednu sumu,
Kad sam, očajan, saznao
Da svaku naknadu koju bih tražio
Život bi spremno platio."

Ti si ono o cemu razmisljas najveci deo vremena

Yes, you are! :)

My vocation is my vacation.

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Everything is a miracle!

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.

...And what if, when you awoke, you had the flower in your hand?

What if you slept? And what if, in your sleep, you dreamed? And what if, in your dream, you went to heaven and there plucked an strange and beautiful flower? And what if, when you awoke, you had the flower in your hand?
